A non-invasive, painless hearing test called an audiometry evaluation gauges a person's capacity to distinguish between various pitches, frequencies, and noises. When a tumor grows inside or near the ear, patients may be subjected to audiometry testing to check for hearing loss or to track their hearing both before and after surgery. It's also used to assess if surgery or hearing aids could help someone hear better. The outer, middle, and inner ears are the three separate components of our ears (Fig. 1). Tests using audiometry can determine if you have conductive hearing loss, which is caused by damage to the eardrum or small ossicle bones, or sensorineural hearing loss, which is caused by damage to the nerve or cochlea. A number of tests may be conducted as part of an audiometry evaluation.
